**Duration**: Ongoing (permanent fulltime)

**Office Location**: Newcastle

**Salary**: $104,433 - $113,401 p/a plus Superannuation and the required tools of the trade, including a vehicle with access to private use

**About the team**

SafeWork NSW is the state’s workplace health and safety regulator. Our focus is to reduce work related fatalities, serious injuries and illnesses by securing compliance with work health and safety legislation and improving the safety culture in NSW workplaces. We also work in partnership with SIRA to improve the return-to-work practices of employers.

The WHS Regional Directorate of SafeWork NSW works with stakeholders across a range of industry sectors, including agricultural, manufacturing, health, retail and transport, to minimise harm. We also work with other key regulators such as the State Insurance Regulatory Authority, Fair Trading, and the EPA

**About the role**

As an Inspector in WHS Regional, you will be responsible for:

- Undertaking proactive site inspections, responding to customer requests, completing preliminary incident investigations, delivering presentations, and working with major industry stakeholders to improve safety standards
- Providing advice regarding safe work practices, return to work and how to comply with work health and safety and workers compensation legislation
- Producing high quality reports to confirm your actions
- Ensuring internal administrative compliance by completing travel, expense, and time keeping records
- Contributing to a positive, supportive, and fun workplace

To be successful, you will have:

- Qualifications in a relevant field and/or industry or regulatory experience (desirable)
- A working understanding of safety requirements applicable to the industries we regulate (desirable)
- Strong communication skills to engage and influence key stakeholders to improve regulatory outcomes
- Good written communication skills and an ability to understand comprehensive and/or technical reports
- Well established resilience skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a diverse team
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities in a timely manner
- Demonstrated knowledge and use of digital technology
- A NSW ‘C’ class drivers licence with a satisfactory safe driving record and a requirement to maintain the safe driving record throughout employment
- To undertake the 12-month New Inspector Training Program (NITP) for the awarding of the Diploma in Government (Workplace Inspection) by the SafeWork NSW Registered Training Organisation
- Work a 38-hour working week, including some weekends and participate in the After-Hours Emergency Response Service
- Receive an attractive salary package along with the required tools of the trade, including a vehicle with access to private use (currently at a cost of approximately $210 per fortnight)
- Be able to access flexible working conditions within operational requirements

**Essential requirements**
- Ability to travel, work remotely and out of usual business hours
- Hold a NSW ‘C’ class drivers' licence with a satisfactory safe driving record and a requirement to maintain the safe driving record throughout employment
- Satisfactory criminal record check
- Satisfactory medical assessment capacity regarding physical and psychological impacts of the inherent duties of the role
