**We are seeking someone to work with and empower the members of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community in Latrobe City.**

**About this Role**

As Aboriginal Community Liaison Officer you will work to support reconciliation, self-determination and sustainable positive change for the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

In this role you will undertake a range of duties, including but not limited to:

- Working strategically with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, Council stakeholders and wider Latrobe City Community.
- Coordinating and delivering culturally significant community events and activities for Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week.
- Participating in relevant networks to ensure the provision of quality services to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

You will also have the opportunity to identify service gaps and community aspirations by engaging in community consultation and researching social data. You will then use your findings to develop, implement and coordinate a range of initiatives that respond to identified gaps and aspirations.

**About You**

We are seeking an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person with relevant experience or qualifications in community services and/or engagement.

You will also have:

- Experience or sound understanding of planning, implementing and evaluating community engagement activities/projects with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and cultures.
- The ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships both internally and externally with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community and Services.
- Experience or understanding of planning, implementing and evaluating community engagement events with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

All successful applicants will need to successfully obtain a Police Check and hold a valid employee Working with Children Check.

This is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under 'special measures' of section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010, and only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.
