**Rehabilitation Assistant**

**Hunter Brain Injury Service (HBIS)**

**About the role**:
Under the supervision of Allied Health Clinicians, you will provide supervision and assistance to clients staying in the transition living unit during rostered shifts (day, afternoon or night shift) from Monday to Friday.

This position aims to maximise the physical, social, communication, cognitive and independent living skills of the clients by:

- Assisting / supervising with personal care, activities of daily living and leisure as required.
- Assisting / supervising with therapy programs prepared by Allied Health Clinicians.
- Assisting / supervising with community access including accompanying clients to appointments or community-based activities.
- Supervising the self-administering of client medications, preparation of meals and laundering.
- Providing relevant and timely feedback to clinicians regarding a client’s rehabilitation progress.
- Participating in staff meetings, in-services and case review meetings and documenting shift summaries.

**Where you’ll be working**:

- The Hunter Brain Injury Service is 1 of 15 state-wide specialist rehabilitation services for adult clients who have experienced a traumatic brain injury.
- The service located in Bar Beach, Newcastle provides a mixture of outpatient, outreach, and community residential care (5 overnight beds Monday to Friday only) within easy walking distance to the beach, shops, cafes and public transport.
- The multidisciplinary team includes Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Pathologists, Social Workers, Neuropsychologists, Dietitians, Clinical Psychologist, Rehabilitation Assistants, Administration and Housekeeping staff. There is also a visiting Rehabilitation Medical Specialist and a Neuropsychiatrist.

**Requirements**:

- Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance OR commitment to complete Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance within 3 years.
- To meet the requirements for Level 2: demonstrated experience working as an Allied Health Assistant Level 1 for a period of 12 months or more and / or Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance (or equivalent qualification). If applicant is unable to demonstrate these requirements, applicant will commence service at Level 1. If applicant has completed a Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance, they will be classified as an Allied Health Assistant Level 3.
- Current first aid certificate.

**Additional information**:

- Applicants must be able to participate in 24 hour 5 days a week roster consisting of morning, afternoon, and an awake overnight shift.
