**About the role**

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Landside Superintendent is responsible for the execution of the daily land side activities involving all road and rail operations in order to maximise productivity, space utilisation, revenue and the effective use of resources.

**Key accountabilities**

This role is critical to the delivery of service to our customers and partners, whilst meeting our statutory compliance requirements. You will be expected to build strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders to drive results. Your ability to positively adapt to changing circumstances and unforeseen events will be a critical to success in this role. Your duties will also include:

- Responsibility for the management and development of staff to ensure they reach their full potential including identifying performance gaps and opportunities for improvement.
- Acting as DP World’s representative at relevant external committees and ensuring terminal operations comply with all customs and quarantine legislation and other statutory bodies.
- Leading by example in the execution of safe work practices and ensure full compliance with WHS&E statutory requirements.
- Managing the VBS optimisation to meet terminal & transport demand and avoid penalty costs.
- Monitoring the Terminal performance in relation to productivity requirements under contract obligations and administer penalty payments as necessary.
- The regular forecasting and reporting on the yard performance and statistics
- Responsibility for improved efficiency in the loading and unloading of all rail containers and ensuring rail operator compliance.
- Identifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the operating performance and service delivery

**Experience, skills and qualifications**

To be successful in this role you will need extensive experience in transport, logistics, maritime/marine activities or materials handling with a thorough knowledge and understanding of Terminal control and planning systems, ideally along with an appropriate tertiary qualification.

You should also have a customer service focus with an emphasis on quality of delivery. In addition, you will need to:

- Provide leadership to motivate, develop and lead a team to positively contribute to business goals and objectives
- Manage conflict including people management matters in a resilient and emotionally intelligent matter
- Improve the efficiency and effectiveness of business systems, services, outcomes and in generating creative solutions for business problems and work practices
- Communicate and negotiate effectively with a broad variety of stakeholders.
- Ability to effectively analyse performance data and report on it.
- Effective PC Application skills including spreadsheets, and terminal operating system.

The role will be based at our Port Botany Terminal in Sydney's south east and is one of Australia’s largest container seaport operations.
