Engagement Officers, Indigenous Electoral

**Agency Purpose**

The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) is an independent statutory authority established by the Australian Government to maintain an impartial and independent electoral system for eligible voters through active electoral roll management, efficient delivery of polling services, and targeted education and public awareness programs.

**The Team**

You will join the Indigenous Electoral Participation Program (IEPP) team. A team of enthusiastic and passionate people who are committed to ensuring eligible Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people can actively participate in our democracy.

The team supports these opportunities by promoting in communities such as enrolment to vote, education sessions, voting during electoral events and opportunities to work during an electoral event.

**The Opportunity**

You will play an important part in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australian elections. As the IEPP Engagement Officer, you will play a role in delivering culturally appropriate electoral services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in New South Wales.

Your knowledge and expertise will help the IEPP to succeed in making Australian elections more accessible for First Nations people. You will be involved in ensuring culturally appropriate electoral services are planned, developed and delivered in New South Wales, while helping to build and grow important partnerships for the AEC with, State Government agencies, Community based organisations and other local partners.

To excel you’ll have:

- Experience in delivering voter education sessions and enrolment activities.
- Demonstrating ability in relationship management and program management with CEPO staff members, government agencies and community organisations.
- Understanding of local challenges to electoral participation, liaising with partners to arrange meetings with communities.
- Experience in building and maintaining stakeholder relationships, both internal and external.
- Ability to develop other staff members skills and expand their experience, while giving advice and guidance on their responsibilities.

- AEC employees must be Australian citizens.
- Any person who is, and seen to be active in political affairs, and intends to publicly carry on this activity, may compromise the strict neutrality of the AEC and cannot be considered.

- Applicants are required to consent to, undergo, obtain and maintain the security clearance required for this role.
