**Time Out Australia** is looking for an enthusiastic and passionate Lifestyle Writer (or Editor, dependent upon the successful applicant’s experience) to join the Sydney team. The position is full time, and the writer will be covering a wide variety of lifestyle content in the city, including but not limited to things to do, nightlife, outdoor/nature adventures, travel, shopping, kids, city life, Sydney news, wellness, area guides, occasionally arts, food and drink and features.

You will be enthusiastic, willing to learn and take direction, live and breathe everything Sydney’s lifestyle scene has to offer, understand what makes an appealing story, and a confident writer and interviewer.

You must be a team player who works collaboratively with the editorial team to meet team objectives to create content that engages an entire city. Over time your will be assigned duties requiring more independent initiative as you gain more experience in the role. The successful applicant will perform their journalistic duties under supervision from the Time Out Sydney Editor.

You will be a fast, accurate and creative writer and will be required to write listings, news pieces and feature stories every week. You will also be keen to attend openings, launches, festivals and other events, as well as participate in Time Out videos and other social media content.

You will have a keen understanding of social media and how to use imagery, headlines and captions to capture an audience’s attention.
From time to time, you will also contribute to commercial briefs and write sponsored content. At the same time, you’ll adhere to our company’s editorial integrity that has made Time Out a leader in the lifestyle space for more than 50 years, and ensure the independence of its coverage.
- Journalism experience, ideally in the lifestyle space
- A thorough understanding of and enthusiasm for the lifestyle scene and being out and about in Sydney
- A finger on the pulse and news, and an everlasting supply of ideas for stories to write
- Strong research skills
- Excellent attention to detail and grammatical skills
- Familiarity with analytics tools like Google Analytics or Parse.ly
- Strong interviewing skills
- An understanding of defamation and intellectual property laws in Australia
- Experience in using social media to drive traffic
- An understanding of SEO and willingness to spend time refreshing existing content as well as writing new content
- Support the team by putting a hand up to check and edit team members’ work, and provide feedback
- A passion for going out There is the expectation that the journalist will attend events, try new things, develop networks, conduct interviews and won’t be hesitant to say yes to opportunities
- Strong relationship-building skills, relating to both internal and external stakeholders
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects and assignments at once
