**Key Responsibilities**
- plans, conducts and reports on relatively complex risk-based financial and operational reviews of the Department’s systems, business activities and governance processes in accordance with the approved Internal Audit Charter and the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing issued by the Institute of Internal Auditors; and
- provides professional advice and consultancy services to management and staff regarding operational matters such as Departmental policies, procedures, business practices, compliance, legislative requirements and corporate governance matters.

**Specific Duties**:

- Plans and conducts risk-based audits of the Department’s operational, financial and management systems, business activities and governance processes, with an overall aim of strengthening the control environment, improving risk management and governance practices and the performance of the Department to achieve its outcomes.
- Assists the Internal Audit Manager with the management and administrative functions required of the Branch.
- Prepares draft audit reports in accordance with the Branch’s reporting methodology for review by the Internal Audit Manager; provides an independent opinion of the auditable activity and makes recommendations that value add and mitigate the Department’s risk exposures.
- Conducts meetings with management to discuss preliminary audit findings and business improvement opportunities and liaises with management regarding the development of an action plan and in obtaining final endorsement of the audit reports.
- Works with management and key officers in the timely follow-up and implementation of action plans in addressing reported audit findings.
- Supports the Internal Audit Manager in the development of the Strategic Audit Plan and Annual Audit Programs and assists with other matters relating to Branch administration and management.
- Maintains close alliance with external stakeholders for progress reporting and clearance of external audit issues, revised government guidelines, policies, procedures and legislative requirements.
- Contributes to the development and improvement of the Branch’s audit methodologies, systems, processes and work practices to enhance the effectiveness of the function.
- Acts as the Executive Officer of the Audit and Risk Management Committee: prepares agenda papers, minute taking, follows up action items and coordinates scheduled meetings.
- Represents the Internal Audit Branch on Departmental working groups and project control board meetings as required.
- Keeps up-to-date with relevant trends and developments in auditing, accounting, risk management and other governance practices to provide a value added service to the Department.

**Core Competencies**
- Sound experience planning, conducting and reporting on risk based audits (including computerised systems) using current auditing standards and practices.
- Sound knowledge of contemporary internal audit concepts, techniques and the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing, issued by the Institute of Internal Auditors.
- Sound experience analysing and interpreting legislation, agreements, policies and procedures.
- High level written communication skills, with the ability to prepare well-written, accurate and grammatically correct reports.

**Other Requirements**
- Possession of, or progress towards, a tertiary qualification in accounting, business, computing, management or a related discipline, would be advantageous.
- A ‘C’ class driver’s licence is preferred as some field work is required
- A Current National Police Clearance (less than 12 months old) is required prior to commencement.
