**Position** **Description**

**JOB TITLE: SDJBL COMPETITION MANAGER**

**REPORTING TO: SDJBL COMPETITION COMMITTEE**

**REMUNERATION (PER ANNUM): As agreed in Contract of Employment**

**HOURS: 10 hours per week minimum, escalating in peak times**

**Summary of the role**

The Competitions Manager is responsible for providing management and operational support for all Southern
Districts Junior Basketball League’s (SDJBL) activities in accordance with the League’s strategy, policies and values.

**Relationships**

The Competitions Manager shall liaise with: o SDJBL Coordinators from participating member clubs regarding team management and game day operations. o The SDJBL Referee Coordinator and Stadium Administrators with respect to the quality, efficiency and service provision for relevant competition officiating. o SDJBL Competitions Committee with respect to finances o SDJBL Competitions Committee on matters relating to the strategic direction of the competition participating member clubs, non-member clubs, social team managers and other affiliated parties including schools and social clubs. o member club representatives regarding venue usage and hire agreements.

**Special Conditions**
Most of this role is performed during available hours, though some specific hours will be required when observing game day experiences, conducting presentations, attending meetings and coordinating events.

**Key Responsibilities** o Responsible for managing the operations of the SDJBL Competition including but not limited to grading, regular season and finals. o Impartially make decisions to enforce the By-Laws of the competition. o Management of employees and volunteers. o Where appropriate make decisions outside of the By-Laws if deemed in the best interest of the SDJBL. o Manage the nomination and grading processes. o Schedule competitions and communicate schedules to participants. o Provide participating Clubs with competition management and other technology support and assistance. o Management of the SDJBL Website and social media. o Ensure integrity of data management. o Ensure timelines are met. o Ensure SDJBL and participating clubs comply with governing bodies requirements. o Liaise with sponsors, suppliers and other key internal and external stakeholders. o Review and report on the performance of the competition and develop strategies for the future. o Develop and maintain operational procedures and plans for the SDJBL. o Liaise with member clubs, Basketball SA and external venue managers regarding the use of facilities for competitions. o Manage the finances of the Competitions Department in conjunction with the SDJBL Competition

Committee or Committee appointed Finance Manager. o Provide written reports to and attend regular SDJBL Competition Committee meetings. o Undertake on other projects and initiatives as required.

**Desirable Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications** o Qualifications in Sports Administration or Business. o Experience using competition management software. o Experience in communicating with various stakeholders. o Knowledge and understanding of the sport of basketball and its by-laws. o Knowledge of the basketball competitions in South Australia and of a similar standard elsewhere.
