Reporting to the Director of Sport, the Head of Rowing leads a contemporary and best-practice rowing
program for Ruyton students, including strategy, operations, people management and culture.

The Head of Rowing will at all times be consistent in supporting the School’s vision and values, by
demonstrating a concern for the welfare and development of each student, and by ensuring the
students exhibit a suitable standard of behaviour as well as conforming to uniform regulations.

The Head of Rowing will uphold the Ruyton Code of Ethical Conduct and support Ruyton students to
train and compete with a high level of sportsmanship and support for their peers.

Therefore, we extend invitations for an Interim Head of Rowing to finish the 2023/24 Rowing
season.

**RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES**

Ruyton has a responsive organisational culture and, as such, this role may be altered to adapt to the
evolving needs of the School. The responsibilities of the Head of Rowing may include but are not
limited to:
**Leading Coaching**
- Developing and implementing a contemporary and inclusive rowing coaching program which

caters for the needs of all students involved in the rowing program, with a focus on growth and
achievement.
- Determining the coaching structure and allocation depending on budget and number and skill of

participants.
- Leading the implementation of personalised training, support and pathways in the rowing program
- Oversee a fair, transparent and consistent crew selection process.
- Monitoring student participation, growth and achievement in the rowing program through data

analysis to maximise student engagement and outcomes and maintain best practice.
- Co-ordinating the introduction and implementation of new rowing initiatives.
- Conducting the Year 8 Learn to Row programme in Term 3.
- Ensuring International, National and State Sporting requirements and innovations are understood

and integrated into the rowing program.

**Leading Wellbeing**
- Supporting and embedding the School’s wellbeing approach and practices to actively support and

prioritise student and staff wellbeing.
- Establishing and maintaining a strong focus on assisting students with the management of

academic and co-curricular demands.
- Seeking the input of wellbeing staff to determine appropriate approaches to coaching and student

groupings.
- Developing and embedding practices to actively support and develop student leadership skills
- Fostering a culture that promotes growth mindset for students and staff.

**Leading People**
- Managing and leading all rowing coaches and support staff.
- Ensuring access to appropriate professional learning for members of the team.
- Ensuring all rowing coaches have the required qualifications, including RV Level Courses, boat

license courses, Coaching and Safety Certification, First Aid and Child Safety, and that these are
maintained.
- Maintaining effective and appropriate communication between staff, students and

parents/guardians.
- Working with rowing coaches, students and parents to resolve issues and concerns pro-actively
- Contribute to the selection, recruitment and induction of new rowing coaches.
- Through active involvement as a rowing coach, model best practice for Ruyton Rowing coaches.

**General Administration**
- Collaborating with the Director of Sport to formulate, submit, and manage the rowing budget,

including forward planning for capital items.
- Conducting induction programs for students and parents and supporting staff induction programs.
- Overseeing, in conjunction with the Administrative Assistant - Sport transport to and/or from rowing

training, regattas and camps.
- Providing current and correct student lists to the Administrative Assistant - Sport for

communication and child safety purposes.
- Organising camps, trips and excursions through the approved School protocols and systems.
- In accordance with Ruyton’s policies and practices, ensuring appropriate risk management and

mitigation, child safety procedures and occupational health and safety measures are
communicated, adhered to and reviewed for all rowing activities.
- Updating the Ruyton Rowing Handbook annually for approval by the Director of Sport.
- Maintaining communication with Rowing Victoria and the HOSG Regatta Committee.
