Opportunity to join the Advocacy Team within the NSW Small Business Commission to support the Commission’s advocacy of small businesses within government. This position is responsible for leading a range of research, analysis and administrative activities to support the Commission’s advocacy for small business.

**About the Team**

The Advocacy team is responsible for providing support and advice to the Small Business Commissioner on matters affecting small businesses, as well as representing their interests to other government agencies.

The Commission sits within the Department of Customer Service as an independent agency.

**About Us**

The NSW Small Business Commission is an independent statutory office of the NSW Government. We provide strategic advice, advocacy and affordable dispute resolution services to small businesses across NSW. Our role includes:

- encouraging government agencies and larger businesses to enter productive working relationships with small businesses
- facilitating and encouraging the fair treatment of small businesses
- promoting a fair operating environment in which small businesses can flourish.

As a key advocate for small businesses across in NSW the Commission aims to ensure small business needs are front-of-mind for NSW Government decisions, support and assistance. The Commission also plays an important role in connecting small businesses, councils and industry groups to vital information and support services.

The Small Business Commission has recently joined the Department of Customer Service.

**Your responsibilities will include**
- Undertake research and insights projects to facilitate the timely delivery of intelligence on the small business environment
- Provide a range of project management and support services, including preparation of reports/policy papers, briefs and submissions, to contribute to the delivery of evidence-based findings and recommendations
- Undertake data collection, analysis and reporting of internal and external data sources to support effective management and assessment of data
- Communicate with key stakeholders and coordinate working groups, committee meetings, and stakeholder consultations to support and improve engagement
- Undertake research and collate information for reporting, monitoring and evaluation purposes to contribute to knowledge of small business perspectives and challenges
- Identify and assess emerging and/or contentious issues that impact service delivery and outcomes to support informed decision making and the achievement of objectives
- Provide assistance to small businesses enquiring about government policies and requirements and respond to routine policy queries to ensure the provision of consistent advice and information

**About you**

You will be a flexible and adaptable team player who can work on a variety of different tasks and is willing to learn key skills on the job. You will have previous experience or a demonstrated interest in policy roles and be able to deal with a diverse range of stakeholders and issues. You have a foundational understanding of the contribution of small business to the community and some of the challenges they face. You will be able to perform a range of research and insights activities in a fast-paced environment and successfully manage competing priorities.
