**About our opportunity**
Your responsibilities will include leading a team to undertake work activities associated with natural areas operations - including but not limited to environmental weed control, natural area conservation works, maintaining and constructing our extensive recreational and fire trail networks, some prescribed burning as well as soft landscaping within council's natural areas
Typically leading small crews - our natural areas Crew Leaders are working with and leading the team maintaining the region’s natural area environments. The tasks and duties of this position will involve identification and allocation of relevant resourcing and materials to undertake tasks, developing and reviewing maintenance schedules and maintaining associated records as well as identifying horticultural and environmental concerns and engaging with a range of technical staff across relevant departments and State Agencies in relation to implementing solutions. You will also be carrying out manual handling/labouring tasks, driving a 4WD vehicle, operating an ATV and operating other relevant plant and equipment while carrying out general vegetation maintenance in natural area environments.
This position will have you working with modern equipment while looking after a diverse range of natural areas such as foreshore zones, riparian zones and urban interface with some exposure to rainforest zones.
**About you**
To be successful in this role you must have current or recent experience maintaining and working within natural areas environments, experience in the day to day management of small work crews and ability to undertake a range of administrative and technology activities in a manner that is appropriate in the relevance of this position. Some fire training or exposure to prescribed burns is desirable.
You will also hold a current MR class driver's license, a Construction Induction card and a current ACDC Herbicide Application Certification (or willing to obtain within 6 months)
Holding a Certificate III in Conservation and Land Management of another relevant field is highly desirable however you must be willing to obtain this to progress through the Crew Leader framework.
