Applications are invited for the full-time ongoing position of Media/Portfolio Advisor in the Office of Senator the Hon. Carol Brown. The position is based in the Senator’s Electorate Office (EO) in Hobart, TAS.

This role would suit a highly motivated person with experience in media, communications, and/or stakeholder relations.

**Key duties of this role are, but are not limited to**:

- Development and implementation of the Assistant Minister’s social media strategy.
- Provide expert and timely advice on priority, complex and sensitive policy, public administration and political issues.
- Working closely with the Assistant Minister, Chief of Staff, the Assistant Ministers’ EO, the Australian Public Service and other key stakeholders to inform the Government’s political, policy and legislative agendas.
- Analyse and prepare reports, papers, policy statements, briefing notes and statistical information on policy and related matters and significant portfolio initiatives.
- Management of media issues relating to the Assistant Minister’s portfolio and Tasmanian media opportunities - both reactive and proactive.
- Development and implementation of a media and communications strategy for the Assistant Minister.
- Liaison with state and federal colleagues in relation to the media and communications opportunities.
- Travel within Tasmania and interstate will be required for this role.
- Other duties as required.

**The ideal applicant should possess the following skills and experience**:

- Relevant knowledge of the heavy vehicle industry is desirable but not essential.
- Excellent writing and communication skills across multiple formats, and the ability to develop concise, targeted messages to reach various audiences.
- Experience in providing advice on a wide range of policy, public administration and political matters in a public, non-profit or private sector organisation.
- The capacity to represent the Assistant Minister with internal and external stakeholders which will require a demonstrated ability to form positive relationships.
- A strong news sense, good judgement and experience leveraging media relationships to manage and promote key issues.
- Demonstrated experience in working in a high-pressure environment as part of a small but determined team.
- Sound knowledge of political and parliamentary processes and the Australian system of government.
- Proven reliability in meeting deadlines and commitments, especially in high pressure situations.
- Shared values and demonstrated understanding of the long-term priorities of the Australian Government.
- Demonstrated professional integrity and the ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.
- Previous experience working in parliamentary settings would be an advantage but is not essential.

**Employment Conditions**:
The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2020-2023 which include:

- A commencing salary between $82,319-$98,739 will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills
- An additional Personal Staff Allowance of $30,779 is payable in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work
- An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable

All ministerial staff will be bound by a code of conduct and be required to obtain and maintain an Australian Government security clearance (NV2).
