**The Role**

Situated at the strategic centre, a role within the Enterprise Performance and Reporting Directorate puts you at the forefront of Defence’s transformation journey. You will be continuously seeking new and innovative ways to improve Defence’s performance reporting to Ministers, Government, and the Australian public. Your role will be to provide robust insights that support the strategic centre in making the right choices to meet emerging strategic challenges.

As a member of the Directorate, you will play a critical role in creating new and innovative ways of enhancing products and services aimed at maturing governance capabilities and culture across the organisation. Individuals with prior experience as Policy Officers, Analysts, Business Intelligence, and Governance Officers with a background working with Theory of Change and Monitoring and Evaluation are encouraged to apply.

The Directorate is focused on enabling better enterprise level outcomes through a number of diverse functions including:

- Assisting Defence Australian Public Service and Australian Defence Force personnel demonstrate compliance with the Public Governance, Performance, and Accountability Act 2013 through performance measurement in Defence’s Annual Report, Corporate Plan, and Portfolio Budget Statements;
- Ensuring strategy, capability, and resources are aligned with Government direction to achieve intended results and outcomes;
- Driving improved planning and performance measurement;

- Providing direct support and advice to the Associate Secretary.

**About our Team**

Enterprise Performance and Reporting Directorate is part of the Enterprise Evaluation and Performance Branch, within the Enterprise Transformation and Governance Division. Our team is a small, but growing high-performing team.

**The Enterprise Performance and Reporting Directorate leads and supports three areas of Defence governance, which are**:

- **Enterprise Performance and Reporting;**
- **Enterprise Performance Measurement; and**
- **Business Planning.**

Ministers need a clear view of how Defence is meeting Government priorities and where early intervention is required in response to the deteriorating strategic environment. To meet this requirement, the Enterprise Performance and Reporting Directorate is delivering a clear line-of-sight between strategy, capability, and resources to improve Defence’s performance reporting as a key organisational priority.

Defence's planning and performance framework provides a platform to drive improved planning and performance measurement. It shifts the focus from accounting for outputs to measuring outcomes, and it should deliver better information to the Australian Parliament. Effective enterprise performance reporting assists Defence to assess overall performance and assure Government that Defence is using Commonwealth resources sensibly and effectively to deliver value to the Australian community.

We are seeking a number of motivated individuals who are comfortable working under limited direction to join and contribute to our growing Directorate. Because of the diversity of the work we do, we need a workforce comprised of individuals with an equally diverse set of skills, experience, and attributes.

To succeed in this role, applicants will:

- Lead the department’s business planning and performance cycle reporting, including:

- Assist the department to deliver business planning and performance reporting, and
- Deliver key aspects of Defence’s Annual Report, Corporate Plan, and Portfolio Budget Statements performance information.
- Identify and facilitate improvements to our performance measures and methodologies;
- Demonstrate adaptability and be flexible in addressing shifting priorities;
- Engage actively and confidently with stakeholders across Defence, the Defence Audit and Risk Committee, the Enterprise Business Committee, and in Ministerial offices;
- Bring your specialised knowledge and advice in performance reporting, governance, Public Governance, Performance, and Accountability Act 2013 requirements, and/or government accountability to make decisions on Defence’s performance system;
- Support stakeholders across the department, including senior executive, through change:

- Develop and maintain key stakeholder networks across Defence, and
- Actively contribute to a workplace culture that values diversity, is inclusive and aims to grow its creativity.
- Provide direct support and advice to the Associate Secretary;

- Drive greater alignment and performance in the delivery of enterprise functions and activities.
