**How this position will Make the Difference to City of Melbourne**

The objective of the position is to assist the Municipal Building Surveyor to fulfil their responsibility and as a delegate of Council as required by the Building Act and the Building Regulations.

The position is required to lead a building investigation, enforcement, information, approval, inspection and audit service to ensure that existing buildings, construction activities and Places of Public Entertainment within the City of Melbourne, are adequately managed to maintain the health, safety and amenity of occupants and the public.

- Ability to demonstrate and display City of Melbourne Values - accountability, integrity, courage, respect for self and others, and striving for excellence.
- Qualifications in Building Surveying and registration as a Building Practitioner in the category of Building Surveyor Unlimited.
- Experience in the appraisal of temporary structures, scaffolding, gantries, prescribed temporary structures and places of public entertainment.
- Experience in emergency management and providing directions in emergency situations.
- Proven ability to lead, develop and motivate a team.
- Proven ability to identify, acquire and coordinate resources and staff to ensure the effective delivery of outcomes within required timeframes.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain quality administrative systems and procedures.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills and proven written and oral communication skills, including experience in drafting correspondence, analysing reports and making recommendations.
- Excellent networking skills and ability to foster collaborative working relationships.
- Strong project management skills and demonstrated ability to manage projects on time, to budget and within scope and agreed quality.
- Experience of business planning, reporting, risk, OH&S and budget responsibilities.
- Advanced computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and internal database and document management system.
