Key Responisibilities Include
- Liaise with patients, medical and non-medical staff in a professional manner to ensure correct collection and processing of specimens and efficient operation of the specimen collection department.
- Perform operational duties which include restocking pathology consumables, maintaining clean work areas and assisting where directed.
- Participate in team meetings as required to ensure open communication within the multi - disciplinary environment.
- Participate in quality and service improvement activities to continually improve patient care
- Participate in relevant ongoing education and assist in staff training.

Key competencies
- Demonstrated knowledge or the ability to acquire knowledge of the importance of standard precautions in dealing with patients and biological specimens.
- Proven ability to follow instructions and work conscientiously and accurately with mínimal supervision after careful instruction.
- Proven ability to work effectively as a member of a team and to communicate effectively with clients, clinical staff and colleagues.
- Positive focus upon patient care within a hospital health care environment.
- Demonstrate a high level of commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement.
- Demonstrate data entry skills with the ability to work accurately and give attention to detail.
- Experience in or the ability to rapidly learn pre-analytical process in a large and complex specimen reception unit
- Ability to efficiently prioritise workloads, show initiative, problem solve and work effectively without direct supervision.
- Understanding of and commitment to laboratory quality systems and the requirements of NATA accreditation and ISO certification.
- Awareness of the human resource management policies applicable to contemporary workplaces.
- Demonstrate a high level of commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement.

Qualifications, registrations and other requirements
- While not mandatory, a Certificate in Pathology (Specimen Collection) or equivalent would be well regarded.
- The successful applicant may be required to work shifts at the Redcliffe, The Prince Charles Hospital or Caboolture Pathology Queensland laboratories.This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Australia License.
