**The Role**
Photographs, Film and Sound (PFS) is a dynamic and energetic section consisting of curatorial and technical experts supported by dedicated collections staff motivated in excellence and the delivery of service. Under general direction, the Assistant Curator, Photographs, Film & Sound will assist with the interpretation, management and development of the National Collection. The position requires curatorial experience including strong research skills; creation of content; communication of curatorial vision; project management and use of contemporary digital outputs.
**Core Responsibilities**
Under general direction the Assistant Curator will assist with the development and operational management of the Photographs, Film and Sound Collection and the curatorial team, including:
- Contributing to the development of the Memorial’s PFS collection by identifying and assessing potential collection material.
- Developing and maintaining an understanding of PFS collection formats both digital and analogue.
- Accessioning, researching and cataloguing items with an emphasis on provenance and significance.
- Undertaking independent and collaborative research and collection-based projects including exhibitions and other public programs.
- Responding to stakeholder enquiries related to the PFS collection in a timely and informative manner.
- Working across multiple Memorial systems such as the collection management system (MuseumPlus) and digital asset management system (Piction).
- Using Memorial archival systems (SharePoint and Trim) to maintain appropriate documentation of donations, enquiries and other collection related matters.
- Liaising with internal and external stakeholders and represent the Memorial as required.
- Manual handling and movement of a wide range of objects including but not limited to boxes, framed prints, photographic negatives and collection items as required. Abiding by and further the principles and practices of Work Health and Safety as outlined in the WHS Act, taking reasonable care for their own health and safety and ensuring that their acts or omissions do not adversely affect the health of safety of other persons.
