**The Principal Inspector key responsibilities are**:

- Manage and conduct quarterly inspections of Youth Detention Centres, and related monitoring activities, in accordance with s263 (4) and (5) of the Youth Justice Act 1992, to ensure the safety and wellbeing of young people detained in detention centres. Analyse and interpret legislation and government policy related to youth justice matters to inform the planning and conduct of Youth Detention Centre inspections and reviews. Make recommendations within inspection reports that are based on an assessment of the implementation of the department's legislative and policy framework, that build on the existing strengths of the Youth Detention Centres, and which identify opportunities for improvement consistent with national and international best practice. Monitor the implementation of recommendations arising from inspections and reviews, including the preparation of regular reports to senior management. Develop, monitor and review the inspection framework for Queensland Youth Detention Centres. Research and analyse contemporary issues and trends in human services to inform the conduct of inspections. Provide timely strategic advice to senior management including the Director
- General on a range of inspection and review issues consistent with national and international best practice.

- Travel is a requirement of this position; therefore, it is a requirement that the applicant hold a current 'C' Class Drivers licence.
