About the role

The Palliative Care Allied Health Assistant - Leisure and Lifestyle Coordinator plays a key role in engaging palliative patients and their carers in meaningful and purposeful activities. With support of the day hospice coordinator, the allied health assistant will plan and deliver tailored programs for groups and individuals in the Hospice and outpatient day program. This position provides support to deliver a diverse range of activities based on patient’s articulated preferences and needs. These activities may include art, music, social, health promotion and reablement activities with both groups and individuals.

Key Responsibilities

Practice in accordance with Calvary and relevant Government Health policies and procedures, the position description, Code of Conduct and industrial agreements. Work in accordance with the mission and vision of Calvary and actively participate in developing a culture that promotes Calvary’s values of healing, hospitality, stewardship and respect.

The Leisure and Lifestyle Coordinator is collaboratively involved in development, preparation, implementation and evaluation of activities offered, and demonstrate willingness to innovate and explore new, best practice approaches to offer opportunities for engagement in patient defined activities of meaning, importance and purpose.

Collaborate with the Day Hospice Coordinator and other team members in the planning, running and evaluation of therapeutic group and individual activities with patients attending the ‘Fig Tree’ Day Hospice program. This will involve both inpatients and outpatients of the Palliative Care service.

What you bring

Relevant Cert IV qualification in either Leisure & Health, Aged Care, Disability Support, Allied Health Assistant, or equivalent qualification in the therapeutic use of music or creative arts

Demonstrated experience in delivering wellbeing or engagement outcomes as a Leisure and Lifestyle coordinator or similar role in implementing creative and therapeutic programs for individuals or groups

Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written

A desire to join a team committed to the care of others in a mission based organisation
