Canberra, Australia National Emergency Management Agency Full time

**National Emergency Management Agency**:
National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was established on 1 September 2022 as a single, accountable Commonwealth authority that delivers a whole-of-nation approach to reducing disaster risk, planning, preparing for, responding to and recovering from all hazards across the emergency management continuum.

NEMA works closely with states and territories to deliver the best outcome for communities across Australia. To help communities respond and recover, while preparing Australia for future emergencies, we:

- Fund programs and initiatives, big and small, that help communities in times of emergency, as well as to recover and prepare, including through disaster recovery funding and the Disaster Ready Fund to help reduce the risk and impact of disasters;
- Have officers located across Australia, working in partnership with states and territories to support disaster-affected communities to collectively build resilience, reduce risk and harm, and effectively respond to and recover from disasters
- Provide national leadership to share knowledge, situational awareness, and trends in disaster efforts to inform, guide and shape the national picture and decision-making at the Commonwealth, state and local Government level - including through policy development and strategy to improve risk reduction, resilience and recovery; and
- Provide round-the-clock all-hazards monitoring and operational coordination for domestic and international emergencies, including supply chain disruptions, critical infrastructure outages, biosecurity risks and widespread cyber-attacks, and through supporting preparedness and response activities, including through the operationalisation of the Australian Government Crisis Management Framework.

**Overview of the Branch and Section**:
This role sits within the National Crisis Operations Branch (NCOB), which is responsible for a wide range of other intelligence analysis functions, including 24/7 situational awareness and open-source interrogation and reporting. NCOB provides awareness of unfolding and potential situations, prediction of potential community impacts and consequence assessment for crisis that are emerging or underway to provide decision support.

These functions support the NEMA Crisis Coordination Teams to prepare for, and respond to, nationally significant events through the activation of National Plans and coordination of Australian Government non-financial assistance. The Australian Government National Situation Room sits with the Branch.

**Crisis Analysis Team**

The Crisis Analysis Team supports crisis planning and response by providing all hazard predictive, impact and consequence analysis for domestic and international crisis affecting Australia or Australian interests. The team forms a critical component of the National Emergency Management Agency by producing decision support intelligence products and collaborating with a range of teams in the National Situation Room and across Australian Government. The team provides high quality products in a fast-paced environment.

The team works on a rotating shift roster, providing support across weekdays, weekends, and public holidays, for extended hours. This ensures the team can produce intelligence outputs during a crisis and are positioned to rapidly inform decision makers should a crisis arise.

**About the Role**

The Intelligence Analyst (shiftwork role) works within the National Situation Room and supports senior team members to produce analytical intelligence products related to natural and man-made crises (e.g. bushfire, cyclone, flood, earthquake, security incident, hazardous materials spill etc.). The role is in an operational environment and involves producing intelligence assessments and providing decision support rapidly, in a constantly evolving environment. A key requirement is the ability for team members to work rotating shifts (early mornings and late nights across weekdays, weekends, and public holidays) and work onsite from the National Situation Room in Canberra.

**Specific duties/responsibilities**:

- Work on a rotating shift roster, with early mornings and late nights, across weekdays, weekends, and public holidays (mandatory)
- Source, collate, process and analyse information and data from multiple sources and feeds to deliver impact and consequence analysis and decision support to stakeholders in the event of a crisis situation (bushfire, cyclone, flood, earthquake, security incident, etc.) while adhering to strict operational timelines.
- Work in a multidisciplinary environment, utilising a range of qualitative and quantitative analysis methods, even when limited data is available.
