**The role**

We have a great opportunity in DevelopmentWA’s Marketing, Communications and Engagement team on a fulltime ongoing basis.

This role’s purpose is to provide strategic advice and guidance to strengthen Aboriginal Engagement across the business and with key aboriginal groups.

Assisting with the practical implementation of the new Heritage Act, the role will assist project managers to meet requirements and develop strong relationships both with Elders and Traditional owners.

Working across the State with Traditional Owner groups and Aboriginal Cultural conduits, this position will provide both strategic and project advice on DevelopmentWA’s major projects to increase cultural input on projects where appropriate.

This position will work closely with the Aboriginal Economic and Community Development role and is responsible for:

- Design, develop and implement strategies to build, enhance and manage trusting and enduring relationships with the representatives of relevant Aboriginal community groups to ensure DevelopmentWA delivers consistent, engaging and meaningful Aboriginal consultation.
- Develop, review and coordinate approaches for appropriate engagement on projects.
- Assess and report on agency performance in relation to the Aboriginal Heritage Act.
- Provide specialist Aboriginal stakeholder engagement expertise and advice to inform the development of community stakeholder engagement strategies, plans and activities including social risk assessment and development of engagement and communications plans.
- Work directly with Development Managers to assist in facilitating engagement with Aboriginal people on projects.

- Exceptional verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to strategically manage critical business relationships.
- Excellent written and editing skills across a wide variety of mediums, including media releases, speeches, newsletters and brochures.
- Demonstrated specialist knowledge, experience and understanding of Aboriginal culture, communities and direct experience in supporting Aboriginal communities and economic development.
- Proven record in developing, formulating and implementing policies, programs, strategies with a capacity to engage and develop internal staff and external stakeholder relationships at senior levels across a range of stakeholder groups.
