Your role at St John of God Subiaco Hospital

The Pastoral Practitioner works as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team for the provision of holistic pastoral services to patients and clients and is responsible for the provision of emotional and spiritual support, theological reflection, ritual facilitation, faith/belief integration, establishing pastoral therapeutic relationships, trauma and grief counselling and emotional intelligence.

The Position- Identify and respond to the spiritual needs of patients/clients and families which facilitates spiritual maturity, theological reflection and emotional intelligence.- Partner with patients/clients, families and members of the multidisciplinary team to develop a spiritual care plan in accordance with agreed interventions.- Advocate for patients/clients and families where stated priorities and best interests are not being recognised.- Facilitate client/patient empowerment in personal decision-making.- Synthesise communication from patient/client to provide input into assessment and care planning as an effective part of the multidisciplinary team.- Provide clinical guidance and consultation as required to members of the pastoral team with regard to pastoral care practice.- Prioritise and respond to referrals in accordance with service procedures and guidelines.- Identify and respond to risk factors that may affect patient/client safety to include recognising mental health concerns and trauma and escalate as per hospital/service policy.- Collate and provide patients/clients and families with relevant health care information and community resources as appropriate to their needs.- Lead prayer, worship, reflection and rituals and contribute to review and development of current practice.- Comply with SJGHC pastoral documentation standards.- Provide bereavement support, as per hospital/service protocol and best practice, including contributing to broader hospital/service bereavement programs as applicable.

You will demonstrate capability and competence in the establishment of therapeutic pastoral relationships with patients and clients from a variety of faith, cultural and social backgrounds. You will have flexibility with working hours including the ability and preparedness to undertake evening/weekend/on call shifts as required.

To succeed you will have completed or be working towards a tertiary level qualification/studies in a relevant field (such as Social work, Counselling, Pastoral, Nursing) and/or have prior experience in the provision of pastoral care in a relevant setting including SJGHC pastoral internship program and/or supervised pastoral field placement and professional development courses.
