- Associate Diploma of Applied Science (Laboratory Technology or equivalent) required.
- Demonstrated capacity to take on responsibility and work independently.
- Good organisational and communication skills and the ability to relate to students and other staff.
- Qualifications for laboratory first aid treatment and procedures.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g. safety, storage and disposal of hazardous materials and the handling and prevention of cruelty to animals).

**Role**:
**ROLE**
- Provide specialised knowledge that is relied upon to deliver support services, under direction, in the laboratory.
- Ability to follow established procedures and guidelines under supervision and instruction is required.
- Knowledge of basic technical and scientific principles, which enable the performance of a variety of inter-related technical tasks.
- Ability to operate and instruct staff and students in the use of science-related equipment.

**Responsibilities**:

- Provide specialist technical advice, under supervision of a teacher, to students in relation to the handling and use of materials and equipment, including the use of chemicals and the conducting and analysis of scientific experiments.
- Source and prepare required materials and/or equipment needed for classes.
- Advise and assist staff in safety matters relating to a specific functional area, e.g. handling of chemicals in a science laboratory.
- Assist teachers in the supervision of science experiments when required.
- Assist with the provision of a reference service to teachers.
- Prepare and operate equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s guidelines and ensure all equipment is always in good working order.
- Provide basic instruction to students, teachers, and other users in operation of equipment used in practical classes.
- Maintain a petty cash system.
- Maintain MSDS reporting and risk assessments according to OH & S regulations.
- Assist in school educational promotions.
- Assist with stocktake of all science equipment.
- Provide specialist advice, under supervision from a teacher to students in respect to the handling and use of chemicals and equipment and in the conducting and analysis of scientific experiments.
- Advise and assist science staff with laboratory safety matters.

Copperfield College is a multi-campus school situated in Melbourne’s North-West. The College is comprised of two junior campuses (Years 7-10) in Kings Park and Sydenham and a senior campus (Years 11-12) at Delahey. We have a student population of approximately 1,900, with 180 (EFT) teaching staff, 70 (EFT) Education Support Staff and 7 Principal Class personnel**. **The SFOE for the College is 0.58, indicating a significant level of social disadvantage.

As a Laboratory Technician, you will be required to provide routine technical support to the Science Coordinator and teachers in the laboratories and science classes.

As a Laboratory Technician, you will predominantly be located at one campus but will be part of a team of 3 Laboratory Technicians who work under supervision of Science teachers at your campus and the Science KLA Leader.

At this level, you would be accountable to the Business Manager but working closely with the Science Coordinator.
