**As our Biosecurity Officer, you will**: - Work independently but under direction to achieve efficient and effective delivery of operational goals following relevant standard operating procedures. As defined in the relevant operational plan, independently undertake tasks contributing to the protection of the Queensland biosecurity system by conducting field-based monitoring, surveillance, auditing, and treatment activities, gathering information, and recording evidence to assist investigations of potential legislative breaches. Specific tasks supporting this will include:

- conducting investigations into suspected plant pest or disease which may include property visits to undertake surveillance and monitoring activities and the collection of relevant samples for laboratory analysis and reporting
- assisting stakeholders to manage biosecurity risks associated with diseases
- conducting surveillance and collecting data and samples to support national and state-based plant pest and disease projects
- conducting investigations on reports of alleged chemical misuse, Maximum Residue Level (MRL) exceedances and contaminants in agricultural produce, livestock and feeds as directed
- taking samples of agricultural produce for testing of chemicals and contaminates exceedance
- auditing Accredited Certifiers as part of the Interstate Certification Assurance (ICA) scheme as per national requirements
- providing government inspection services to facilitate interstate market access
- monitoring industrial cannabis license holders as per the operational plan
- ensuring compliance with intrastate biosecurity zone movement procedures by assessing and issuing relevant approvals for the movement.
- Work with external stakeholders to facilitate their legislative compliance by responding to technical enquires and providing accurate and timely technical advice reflecting relevant policy. This includes: - ensuring that queries are escalated to a more experienced/knowledgeable colleague when required
- developing and maintaining effective working relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders to promote biosecurity risk management and government policy. Participate in Emergency Pest and Disease responses at a district, state-wide or interstate level. This can include field work in remote areas and/or being based away from home for periods of time in excess of one week.
