**The Role**

In this role you will provide paralegal support to SWIVIVA Law Firm - SLAW. Your primary responsibility will be to assist in the delivery of high-quality legal support services.

SLAW is also willing to consider Paralegal (Traineeship) for capable applicant's without previous paralegal experience.

**Position Requirements**

Previous experience using legal software, the Commonwealth Courts Portal, and Microsoft Office is advantageous also.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to prioritise and manage workflow.
- Proven computer systems skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook and typing skills.
- The ability to work under pressure, and to meet deadlines.
- The ability to work as part of a team whilst also able to work independently with mínimal supervision as a self-starter.
- Above all you must be able to respect confidential material and exercise the highest levels of discretion.
- Superior attention to detail.
- The ability to work within a close-knit team.
- You must also know how to relate to people from a range of backgrounds and in a variety of situations, be highly trustworthy, and use good judgment.
- Be Driven, emotionally intelligent and have relevant training or experience in secretarial, executive assistant, business management related roles.
- Articulate and have a proficient grasp of English language (reading, listening, speaking and writing)
- IT savvy and able to use online meetings resources such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Webex etc.
- Able to generate documents and reports using Microsoft Office Suite and other related software as well as SLAW’s preferred legal or case management software.
- An effective team player with ability to work independently as required.
- Organised, professional and proactive with strong attention to detail.
- Able to overcome problems, courteous and calm under pressure.
- Strong research, intellectual and analytical skills.
- Able to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.

**Key duties**
- Knowledge of legal terminology, regulations and court system or a strong willingness and ability to learn.
- Perform administrative tasks such as drafting documents and preparing costs agreements.
- Assist with typing, reviewing/editing transcription as required.
- Liaise with clients, Barristers, Solicitors, Court Staff, and other stakeholders for specified tasks as requested including sending briefs, confirming dates, making appointments.
- Secretarial support for solicitors including brief preparation, drafting, and sending correspondence, file openings, booking conferences, mediations, etc).
- Draft and file court, tribunal and legal documents, and general correspondence.
- Work with our solicitors to support them with day-to-day operations of files and case management.
- Maintain diaries with court dates etc.
- Photocopy and receipt, transmission and recording of communications.
- Prepare correspondence, draft legal documents, prepare court files and briefs.
- Create and maintain client files electronically on firm’s practice management software.
- Engage in Legal research, fact gathering and information retrieval.
- Contact and conference with clients.
- Analyse and summarise documents.
- Prepare for and assist at trial.
- Locate and interview witnesses.
- Travel to court appearances and other meetings including interstate as needed.
- Coordinate with Solicitors and others in order to ensure that they complete all the tasks in a timely manner.
- Assist in BAS lodgements, data entry and other account and invoice reconciliation tasks.
- Perform other tasks as required.

**Hours**

The position can be either a **full or part-time** role. If part time, a minimum of 3 full days or equivalent is desirable.

Pay: $40,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
