Purpose of the Role:
The Education Assistant will assist the secondary teachers with the care and supervision of students, the delivery of set educational programs and the preparation and maintenance of the classroom environment as directed by the head teacher. The Education Assistant will promote the ethos of the school with the re-engagement of educationally at-risk students in a co-operative and transparent environment.

Key Duties:

- Provide support allowing students to begin to re-engage with learning generally and in a nurturing manner
- Monitor, assist, correct and grade as appropriate and provide individual feedback on work
- Maintain order in the classroom/work environment by counselling students with behavioural problems or working with counsellors already engaged with students
- Consult with other professionals regarding evidence of learning disabilities; drug or alcohol abuse; problems of social adjustment or child abuse
- Evaluate own teaching critically to improve effectiveness
- Maintain a safe; secure and healthy educational environment following procedures and processes and within legal guidelines
- Provide student support outside of class time where appropriate in student organisations or activities
- Attend all staff meetings and liaise with other colleagues
- Update job knowledge by attending faculty meetings; educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks and participating in professional organisations
- Enhance the reputation of Sowilo by accepting new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to the students’ educational experiences
- Facilitate and deliver electives and after school study club activities
- With guidance from the Curriculum Co-ordinator, plan and deliver non assessed curriculum to small student groups independently.
- Any other duties as may be reasonably requested by the Principal or Deputy Principal

Required Skills / Experience:

- Professional and emotional resilience is required when following school policies if unusual and confronting situations arise
- High level of communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on conflict resolution and the ability to actively listen
- Demonstrated ability to work independently/autonomously and to prioritise work functions to meet strict deadlines
- Strong ability to build effective working relationships with staff and students
- Demonstrated experience in supporting children with learning difficulties
- Sensitivity and care to students needs and capabilities
- Ability to support an environment of active and genuine learning despite classroom disruptions
- Able to motivate students who are chronically disengaged from the school system
- Maintain high standards of ethical conduct and confidentiality

Required Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification as an Education Assistant (Secondary)
- First Aid Certificate (St Johns Ambulance or approved equivalent)

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term
Contract length: 12 months

**Salary**: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year

Schedule:

- Weekends only

**Education**:

- Certificate I - IV (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

- Working with Children Check (preferred)
- National Police Clearance (preferred)

Work Authorisation:

- Australia (required)

Work Location: In person
