**About the role**

The Safety, Risk & Assurance team plays a critical role in ensuring rail safety systems, procedures, and practices reflect the highest standards of Queensland Rail and national law.

We have a great opportunity for an experienced person passionate about rail safety to join our team as **Manager Rail Safety Systems** and help drive railway operations safety as a member of the Rail Safety Leadership team.

This is a **permanent, fulltime **position, based in **Brisbane CBD** with a competitive remuneration package.

**Key responsibilities include**:

- Develop, implement, monitor and review rail safety controls that enable the Rail Safety Team to deliver its key performance objectives, budget and operational initiatives.
- Manage the development, amendment and review of the safeworking suite of safety management documentation.
- Manage the Queensland Rail Safeworking program, including ensuring that the suite of safety management documents are current and effective.
- Establish and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate effective rail safety principles and procedures and where applicable, build capability.
- Liaise with key stakeholders within Queensland Rail to integrate safeworking systems and frameworks in line with Queensland Rail’s Governance Management systems.
- Actively promote and contribute to the achievement of business objectives and targets as established, including provision of a high level of customer service to internal and external customers, and work as One Queensland Rail though cooperation and teamwork.
- Use appropriate methods and interpersonal styles to effectively lead, develop, motivate, coach and provide guidance to staff toward the successful completion of business plans and projects, such as aligning performance for success, delegating responsibility and facilitating change.
- Provide expert advice to the Senior Manager Rail Safety, Safety Managers, Safety Advisers, and line management in respect of rail safety issues and other major safety projects.
- Develop alliances with professional organisations that specialise in rail safety systems and cultural and capability improvement initiatives.
- Extensive rail operations experience and knowledge of rail safety management principles and issues.
- Experience leading, coaching, and developing a team within a large, complex, and dynamic organisation.
- Strong influencing, negotiation, and communications skills with expertise in managing diverse stakeholder opinions to achieve a single outcome.
- High level of skill in coordinating the formulation and implementation of organisational management systems, controls and processes to minimise risk exposures and maximise business efficiencies within a diverse environment.
