The Assistant Retail Manager will work with the Retail Manager in the daily operations of the retail shop at the Australian National Maritime Museum. With a flair for visual merchandising, the Assistant Retail Manager will lead the casual POS team in sales and customer service and assist in growing the online shop and wholesale business.

**High level overview of responsibilities**:

- Assist the Retail Manager with efficient management and operation of the retail and merchandise business, including fulfilling duties of the Retail Manager during holidays or sick leave.
- Assist the Retail Manager to ensure the shop is adequately staffed for all periods especially peak periods.
- Lead and train POS staff in customer service, sales, and product knowledge.
- Assist the Retail Manager in visual merchandising, promotional displays, cleanliness of shop, and monitoring stock levels to ensure the shop is always well stocked, including providing monthly reports.
- Assist the Retail Manager with financial reporting processes; including but not limited to EOD and EOM procedures.
- Take responsibility for the health and safety of staff and visitors within the shop.

**Selection Criteria**:

- Experience working in a successful commercial business.
- Experience in leading teams with demonstrated ability to supervise, motivate, and train staff.
- Creative ability to present attractive visual merchandise displays to stimulate interest and increase sales.
- Experience in retail operations, monitoring and maintaining stock levels, EOD cash handling procedures, and preparing financial reports.
- Strong sales and customer service skills with excellent presentation and communication skills..
- Able to work weekends and public holidays when required.
