**Organisation**
Brightside Recruitment is currently working with an established not for profit organisation that provides support to individuals and their families who are involved or have been involved in the criminal justice system.

**Role**
Based in Sydney's Inner West, as the AOD Worker you'll provide a broad range of services for people exiting prison. You’ll use holistic, therapeutic social and emotional wellbeing counselling and support on an outreach basis for people with substance use issues who are leaving NSW Correctional Centres.

Duties will include;
- Assess referrals and conduct assessments of clients referred pre-release from custody
- Provide pre-release AOD counselling and support to people for one month prior to their release
- Provide outreach AOD counselling and support to people in their own homes or some other safe place during the high risk transitional period (first 3 months) from prison to the community for a further 11 month period post-release
- Provide advocacy, support, including harm minimisation and health promotion information and warm referral pathways to assist people to access and engage with mainstream AOD and other support programs that can improve their social and emotional wellbeing

**Selection Criteria**

You will need;
- To identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person.
- Significant experience and/or relevant qualification(s) in drug and alcohol counselling and support.
- Minimum Cert IV qualification in Mental Health (or similar field)
- Knowledge and experience of working with complex and compounding needs such as criminal justice system involvement, AOD, intellectual disability or cognitive impairment, and mental illness.
- Demonstrated cultural competency and knowledge of issues relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and CALD communities.
- A current NSW Driver Licence.
- A current NSW WWCC.
- A satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
- You must be fully vaccinated against COVID19, including booster.

- Being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational qualification as specified under section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
- Full time hours, 38 hours a week.
