- The role of Deputy Building Surveyor - Approvals is critical to ensuring that Counci'sl Building Compliance team is effectively resourced and able to fulfil its statutory requirements under the Local Government Act and Building Act with the objective of protecting and enhancing the safety and amenity of the municipality.
- Reporting to the Municipal Building Surveyor, the role is responsible for providing an efficient and effective service to its customers and ratepayers relating to the investigation, receiving, assessment, inspection and resolution of building related matters.
- In fulfilling these responsibilities, the position will assist the Municipal Building Surveyor lead, manage and ensure the delivery of the following key requirements:
- Act as Delegate of the Municipal Building Surveyor exercising authority and decision making in accordance with the Building Act 1993, relevant legislation and Council policies.
- Assess and issue Building Permits, Occupancy Permits, Building and Emergency Orders and other legal documents under own name and Practitioners Registration as Delegate of the Municipal Building Surveyor.
- Manage the emergency call out service for attendance by a Building Surveyor for building related issues as requested by the Fire Brigade, Police or other emergency service authorities.
- Co-ordinate between all emergency service authorities and contractors by developing strategies and directions on work to be carried out to minimize the risk to public safety.
- Provide training and mentoring to junior staff to develop their skills and experience to progress and obtain qualification and registration as Building Practitioners
- Prepare the necessary reports and documentation to allow commencement of enforcement action against illegal and non-conforming building works when directed by the Municipal Building Surveyor.

To be considered you will have:
- Tertiary qualifications as Building Surveyor.
- Significant relevant experience in a Building Services team, ideally within local government.
- Strong interpersonal skills and with the ability to use open communication skills and communicate with influence.
- Professional registration as a Building Surveyor - Unlimited with the Victorian Building Authority. Limited may be considered for the right applicant.
- Current Victorian Driver’s License.
- Demonstrated experience in supervision and staff development.
