**The Opportunity**:
The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is recruiting for a Parliamentary Service Level 4/5 Gardener In Charge within Property Services Branch.

DPS is looking for an individual with supervisory and landscape management experience to fill the vacancy of Gardener in Charge. The position is in the Landscape Services team which is a dynamic team of horticultural and turf maintenance staff who are responsible for the maintenance of 23 Hectares of Turf and gardens at Australias premier building, Parliament House. We are looking for someone with personal drive who can manage a range of maintenance tasks and can cope well in a high profile location and work under pressure.

**Job Specific Requirements**:

- The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (Protected/Restricted) security clearance.
- Certificate 3 qualifications in Horticulture or Turf Management or equivalent are mandatory for the PSL4 classification. Certificate 5 (Diploma) qualifications and 7 years' experience are mandatory for the PSL5 classification.

Under limited/general direction undertake duties in accordance with the agreed standards for the Parliamentary Service Level 4/5 classification. The duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Supervise and coordinate the workload of a subsection engaged in landscape maintenance and redevelopment work.
2. Undertake highly technical gardening work including:

- Implement, monitor and review plant nutrition over a wide selection of plants, conditions and soil types.
- Implement, monitor and assess pest management strategies.
- Operate manual and fully automatic irrigation systems.
- Calculate water requirements over a variety of conditions, soil and plant types.
- Understand landscape design principles, practices, concepts and themes; and
- Undertake or assist with research reviews as required.

3. Conduct Staff-annual and mid cycle performance assessments.
4. Maintain service standards, garden development and the testing of new products.
5. Ensure that all machinery and equipment is maintained in good working order and serviced regularly according to a set plan.
6. Participate in the organisation and implementation of induction and on-the-job training programs.
7. Maintain a high standard of safety in operational areas.

Currently, the salary range for this position is $77,719 - $92,412 per a
