**Division Responsibilities**

The Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) provides support to the Gene

Technology Regulator in administering a national scheme for the regulation of genetically

modified organisms, that protects the health and safety of Australians and the Australian

environment. The work of the office involves the evaluation and approval of GMOs in

Australia as well as compliance and enforcement functions.

Staff at the OGTR are involved in the preparation of risk assessments for the release of

GMOs into the Australian environment, as well as use of GMOs for research in laboratories

or as part of clinical trials; monitoring field trials, clinical sites and laboratories; undertaking

audit and compliance activities and national and international regulatory liaison activities.

We are a small, dynamic office that provides a collegiate, family-friendly work environment.

**Branch Responsibilities**

The Evaluation Branch is responsible for a range of statutory functions including conducting

human health and environmental risk assessments for the release of GMOs into the

environment, and for laboratory or contained work with GMOs, accreditation of

organisations and certification of contained facilities. We evaluate scientific information and

evidence to identify and manage risks from GMOs and establish appropriate risk

management conditions.

We visit high level contained facilities to ensure they meet our requirements. The Branch is

also responsible for the science strategy of the office and the OGTR Risk Analysis

Framework. We aim to meet all our statutory deadlines and be open and transparent in

engagement with our stakeholders. The Branch monitors developments, discoveries and

new technologies emerging from health and medical research and collaborates across

government portfolios to promote knowledge exchange around the regulation of GMOs.

**Section Responsibilities**

The Application Entry Point Section manages the information, business systems, and

Gene Technology Scheme.

systems, working closely with ITD in an Agile framework. In addition, the team actively

engages with business process and administrative improvement projects within the office.

management systems are fit for purpose
- Assist with business systems administration, including maintaining systems for

projects to implement changes associated with legislative change
- Assist with the development and improvement of regulatory business processes,

operational and administrative practices and identify potential efficiencies
- Lead a team to deliver a diverse range of outcomes, manage competing tasks and

priorities, and support the work of the Branch and the Office
- Manage staff in a busy team environment, encourage and motivate continuous learning

and collaboration
- Contribute to Branch/Division operations and planning and the development of people

capability
