**About You**
- You have lived experience dealing with the impact and recovery of suicidality and are willing to share those experiences to help others.
- You are wanting to build a connection, facilitate hope and reduce the loneliness of those in a similar situation.
- You have excellent communication skills and can work with multiple stakeholders simultaneously (such as team members, patients and families).
- Attainment of the Intentional Peer Support (IPS) and Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work (Consumer), or successful completion of Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work (Consumer) within 18 months of commencing position, including completion of CHCCCS003 and willingness to complete other essential training as soon as practical.

**What you'll be doing**
- The Suicide Prevention Peer Worker will work across Acute Service teams to provide holistic recovery oriented, trauma informed and evidence based rapid crisis support to people experiencing suicidality.
- Peer Support Workers are integral members of the team and draw on their lived experience of recovery from suicidality to provide authentic engagement and support and instil confidence and hope in others about the journey of recovery.
- The Peer Support Worker will provide holistic non clinical support to people experiencing suicidality.
- The Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD) Alternatives to Emergency Departments (Safe Haven) Service is a key part of the NSW Government's 'Towards Zero Suicides' initiatives.
- The program will provide support for consumers who present to the service in acute psychological distress and suicidal crisis in a safe non-clinical space (Safe Haven) staffed by peer workers as an alternative to an emergency department presentation.
- The Redirection from Emergency Departments (Safe Haven) Program will redirect people to appropriate and immediate support nearby to emergency departments, where rapid and compassionate care can be provided by peer workers in a non-clinical environment supported by mental health clinicians.
- The Mental Health Peer Workers play a critical role in facilitating a clients integration back to the community and primary care setting and supporting their recovery journey.

A Peer Worker Casual Pool will also provide further opportunity for staffing of the soon to open Wyong Safe Haven in June 2023.

**Qualifications - External**
- Demonstrated understanding of how the District is Caring for the Coast and how this role would contribute
- A lived experience of mental illness with the ability to draw on your own personal recovery experience to support others.
- A willingness to undertake the Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work.
- Knowledge of recovery orientated practice within a mental health context and a capacity to promote recovery from a consumer perspective.
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and demonstrated organisational and computer literate skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team to build relationships.
- Ability to implement programs, including consumer advocacy activities and peer support programs.
- Current Drivers licence

**Where You'll Be Working**

The position sits within the Central Coast Mental Health Service (CCMHS). The position will provide support to people accessing Emergency Departments (ED) and inpatient mental health units as well as provide outreach to community mental health services and community managed services to support the delivery of culturally safe mental health care.
