**EHS Specialist**
This position is responsible for leading, developing, reviewing and implementing EHS programs, maintaining regulatory compliance, and designing safety into a new state of the art manufacturing facility. Provide guidance and technical expertise to achieve excellence in the area of EHS compliance as well as supporting day-to-day operations, leading EHS design, maintaining required programs, training personnel, supporting the implementation of the EHS Management System, and participating in EHS audits/assessments.

**Responsibilities**:
Major duties and responsibilities Include:

- Proactively drive EHS strategy, including design input/review, HAZOP/Risk reviews, construction works involvement and full operational readiness for the new facility, including setting standards and design direction
- Monitor and track the construction of the facility to determine EHS impacts to the site operations. Report status updates for the following:

- Key project personnel
- EHS team
- Monthly reports
- As determined by the company, Onsite, systems monitoring of the Principal contractor including reviewing implementation and effectiveness of Safety Management Plans, Traffic Management Plans and Subcontractor Management.
- Where works are under the control of the company; on site and systems monitoring of engaged contractors including reviewing implementation and effectiveness of Safety Management Plans (including SWMS), Traffic Management Plans and subcontractor Management.
- Provide assistance to the company’s engineers in developing and reviewing SWMS; in particular when the company is operating as the Principal Contractor
- Ensure EHS requirements (including EHS Management Plan) are developed for areas where the company is the Principal Contractor
- Work with Engineering and Production teams to ensure Safe Work Procedures are in place for commissioning and validation tasks. Lead HAZOPs and other risk review exercises and ensure fully documented / filed for future reference and ongoing updating
- Coordinate with site EHS and Project team to ensure EHS systems are in place and ready for occupation of facilities.
- Coordinate the commissioning phase of the project with Project Managers to ensure EHS aspects of commissioning are planned and controlled including:

- Resource planning to prevent personnel fatigue
- Coordinate introduction of power, chemicals and gases into the facility
- Coordinate safe Basic and Functional commissioning practices
- Manage EHS consultant input into the project including risk assessments, design reviews and compliance reviews including dangerous goods, chemical exposure and any required environmental, occupational hygiene, ergonomic or other assessments over the project life.
- Ensure an effective Emergency Management Plan and Program is in place
- Support the site EHS team with overall facility EHS responsibilities as assigned including involvement in other projects

**Skills and Experience**:

- Bachelor’s Degree required. Safety, Engineering, Environmental, or related field.
- 5+ years in an EHS role preferably in a Pharmaceutical and/or Chemical Industrial Manufacturing.
- A good working knowledge General Industry
- Past experience in EHS project management, including design and operational readiness
- Ability to work in a team setting and among multiple department functions that allows for cohesiveness, supportiveness, and working effectively together to enable each employee and the department to succeed.
- Demonstrated courage to intervene as needed and appropriate to address safety and environmental concerns.
- Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, detail-oriented.
- Lead and set examples for superior safety and environmental performance.
