Headquartered in Nowra, New South Wales, QinetiQ Air Affairs provides targets and training services, and electronic warfare capabilities to the Australian Defence Force, in addition to aerial surveillance and reconnaissance in support of government firefighting efforts. Air Affairs owns and operates a fleet of special mission aircraft and maintains an advanced manufacturing and engineering facility providing design, manufacture and certification operations.

We are now looking for an experienced Aviation Safety Manager to join our QinetiQ Air Affairs team in Nowra, NSW.

Join Our Team and Lead Aviation Safety Excellence at QinetiQ Air Affairs Flight Operations

QinetiQ Air Affairs is actively seeking an accomplished Aviation Safety Manager to lead and enhance safety practices within our unique flight operations environment. This pivotal role entails working collaboratively with multifaceted teams to cultivate a resilient safety culture and guarantee adherence to stringent regulatory standards.

As the Aviation Safety Manager you will be responsible for;
Developing and executing the Aviation Safety Management Plan, ensuring its effective implementation

Conducting strategic reviews and engage with senior management to prioritise safety focus areas

Ensuring compliance with legislation and codes of practice, fostering a culture of safety at all levels

Establishing a comprehensive reporting structure to capture operational risk and facilitate continuous improvement

Mentoring and guiding QinetiQ and QinetiQ Air Affairs safety teams to enhance safety leadership and information sharing

Day to day you will be;
Managing operations of the Safety Management Systems

Conducting safety meetings, audits, and preparing comprehensive safety reports

Liaising with relevant stakeholders including the aviation operations manager, the Head of Flying Operations (HOFO), Head of Training and Checking (HOTAC), CASA Delegates and internal operations

To be successful in this role you will have;
Significant knowledge of safety management principles, human factors, incident investigation, and risk management

Considerable, demonstrated leadership experience in an aviation safety role, within defence, general aviation or commercial airlines

Completed a lead auditors course and have implemented organisational change management

Excellent communication skills with a strong stakeholder engagement ability

Demonstrated influencing skills and experience liaising across a multidisciplinary organisation

Ideally you will also have an understanding of both CASA and DASR regulations.
