The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager, Legal Services, the Legal Support Officer works across the entire Legal Division and is responsible for a range of tasks including conducting legal research, processing any subpoena or Freedom of Information requests received by the Commission, and providing administrative support on legal matters within the Division. The Legal Support Officer is required to have experience in providing administrative support to senior team members and the ability to understand and adhere to strict legislative requirements. They should have the ability to work with a high degree of attention to detail, excellent computer skills and developed time management skills.
Key responsibilities
- Support lawyers by conducting preliminary legal research and compiling legal documents
- Manage administrative activities associated with legal matters including file administration, data entry and searches
- Process subpoena and freedom of information requests received by the Commission to ensure efficient compliance with legislative requirements
- Preparing draft decision letters for freedom of information matters
- Compile briefs for counsel including photocopying, indexing and typing instructions
- Arrange for legal documents to be filed and served
