**Role**:
The successful applicant will lead improvement in student outcomes in English across all Victorian Curriculum levels, VCE and VCE VM. The English Leader leads a team of approximately 30 teachers of English and is supported by an English Leadership Team comprised of two English Learning Specialists, up to three Campus-based Assistant English Leaders, and the services of three specialist consultants.

There is one English Learning Specialist at each junior campus, whose role is coaching. The Campus-based Assistant English Leaders assist with organisational tasks and support teachers new to their campus. The consultants also coach junior campus staff and provide targeted professional learning, feedback, and support to the English Leadership Team.

**Role and responsibilities**

**Teaching and Learning**
- Support all English teachers to create an Aspirational Learning Environment as defined in the Copperfield College definition (see below)
- Be an exemplary classroom practitioner, providing demonstration lessons and coaching
- Maintain the English GVC, particularly in line with changes to the VCE Study Design and ensuring consistency between campuses and teachers
- Analyse the need for and source professional learning for English staff
- Lead the English KLA to reflect on student performance data at all levels and to plan for interventions in KLA meetings and PLTs

**Reading and Writing**
- Lead the English KLA, in collaboration with the English Learning Specialists (and consultants), to improve student achievement in writing
- Collaborate with the English Learning Specialists (and consultants) to ensure independent reading is taught, monitored and reported on in all junior campus English classes
- Collaborate with the Literacy Leading Teacher to support the literacy intervention program and promote reading across the college and in the community
- Monitor progress towards NAPLAN and English Study Score goals as expressed in the School Strategic Plan and work strategically to achieve those goals over time

**Assessment and feedback**
- Lead work on the refinement of developmental rubrics and assessment criteria within the English KLA to (a) provide accurate assessment and (b) support students to self-assess
- Develop and oversee rigorous moderation practices across the KLA
- Develop processes for students to access and respond to their assessment data and set meaningful learning goals in English
- Liaise with the reporting administrator to ensure Subject and CAT information is accurate
- Lead the English KLA to invest in NAPLAN preparation and analysis
- Ensure data collected through regular literacy testing such as PAT-R and OnDemand is used effectively by the English Department

**Teams and community**
- Lead the English KLA by creating a collaborative and aspirational culture in KLA meetings and PLTs
- Collaborate with the English Learning Specialists around a long term plan for English staff development and coaching
- Coordinate and support the work of the Campus based Assistant English Leaders
