**About the role**

This exciting role sits within Council’s Regulatory Services Department, reporting to the Coordinator of Community Compliance. Regulatory Services encompasses a range of functions including Animal Management, Local Laws, Parking Management, Public Safety & Security and Councils School Crossings Service and brings something different every day.

This role is pitched to someone who has an understanding of investigations, however is willing to learn along the way. You will be responsible for providing education to the Greater Dandenong community with regard to policies and legislation governing animal management, local laws, litter and the environment while enforcing legislative controls relating to domestic animals, local law activity, land use, school crossing supervision and civic compliance.

The primary objectives of the position include:

- Contribute to the maintenance and improvement of animal management and amenity standards within the municipality, through the enforcement of legislative controls relating to: animalcontrol, local law activity, land use,school crossing supervision and public safety.
- To provide advice and assistance to members of the community and general public in regard to policies and legislation governing animal management, Council local laws and matters of public safety.
- Investigating dog attacks/rushes and other complex matters under the Domestic Animal Act 1994.
- Contribute to Councils animal management service which includes containing loose dogs, livestock and ensuring that regulations and codes of practices are adhered to by animal owners and Domestic Animal Businesses.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of Councils Domestic Animal Management Plan.

**About you**

**To be successful in this role, the applicant will require the following knowledge, skills, experience and attitudes**:

- Certificate IV in Statutory Compliance and Animal Control or equivalent and/or demonstrated knowledge and skills gained through on-the-job training in a customer service role, preferably in a compliance/enforcement field.
- Demonstrated effective communication skills, including the ability to influence others to achieve positive outcomes, particularly with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to act independently in resolving minor problems often involving disputation orinterpersonal conflict, by the use of advocacy and conflict resolution skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to serving the public and community and ability to work as a highly effective member of a close knit team.
- Demonstrated well developed oral & written communication skills including the ability to prepare clear and concise written documentation, e.g. for later use in legal proceedings.
- Demonstrated competency in using up to date technology (including software programs and mobile devices) to complete Regulatory or Enforcement tasks or responsibilities.
- Ongoing availability to work a programmed roster covering spread of hours 6am-9pm, regular weekend work and overtime.
- Satisfactory Police and Working With Children checks are required, along with a Current Victorian Drivers Licence.
- A Functional Capacity Test is required before employment can be offered.
