About Us

Macquarie is a university engaged with the real and often complex problems and opportunities that define our lives. Since our foundation 58 years ago, we have aspired to be a different type of university. Over the years, we’ve grown to become the centre of a vibrant local and global community.

The Pro Vice-Chancellor Research, Innovation and Enterprise [PVC(RIE)] provides strategic and operational leadership on all matters relating to research and development, consultancy, innovation, translation, commercialisation, entrepreneurship, start-up company incubation and corporate partnerships including but not limited to research partnerships. The role oversees the implementation of processes that advance and sustain relationships in the interests of the University and its partners.

The Director of Partnerships leads the MQ Partnerships team and provides strategic direction, advice and training on all aspects of university partnership activities; to cultivate high value, long term strategic partnerships; to facilitate the achievement of university revenue attraction targets; to develop, drive and implement research investment attraction strategies and initiatives aligned to the University’s strategic research priorities; and to develop and implement efficient frameworks, policies, procedures and processes to achieve the above objectives.

The Role

The RPCs sit within the Research Partnerships arm of the MQ Partnerships team, and will have a strategic and very particular focus on working with the Faculty of Science and Engineering. The RPCs will be genuinely integrated with, and work closely with, the Faculty of Science and Engineering research office staff team. They will also work closely together, and with the broader MQ Partnerships team - on interdisciplinary and complementary projects, and to share learnings, ideas, and connections.

The RPC positions will collaborate with and support the Director, Partnerships, Research Partnership Managers, Strategic Research Bid Managers, and Business Development Manager to identify, shape and secure research funding opportunities and partnerships with industry and government. In this position you will initiate, develop and manage relationships with MQ researchers, government and non-government organisations, private industry and other current or possible investors in research at the University. You will provide expert advice and guidance to researchers relating to engagement with external organisations and on research proposals, tender bids and project budgets. The RPC will also lead and project manage the development and procurement of these opportunities, working closely with internal MQ academics, professional services colleagues and Executive, and external partners as relevant.

The RPCs will co-ordinate meetings, events, and visits with/ to/ from partner institutions, investors, and tradeshows and other fora, and identify market opportunities related to research and internally promote relevant research funding opportunities.

The RPC role is responsible for building, managing, and maintaining excellent and productive working relationships with key internal stakeholders, and external partners aligned with the portfolio.
