Deakin University is seeking a Gardener to provide grounds maintenance and associated services are maintained in excellent condition in order to provide a positive, vibrant, and enjoyable campus experience for staff and students.

**Your key responsibilities will include**:

- Ensure all work is carried out to the set service performance standards and fulfil daily allocated tasks and relevant maintenance programs
- Carry out planting and maintenance of lawns (including sports fields), garden beds, trees, drains and car parks and redevelop landscaping areas as required, such as preparing concept sketches for planned improvements, including planting of areas, using knowledge of plant performance, growing habits and plant selection
- Operation and maintenance of various types of horticulture and earth moving machinery and take responsibility for care of plant, tools and equipment including fuel, lubrication and fluid levels
- Ensure relevant use of personal safety clothing and equipment and ensure works undertaken are carried out safely
- Recognise the importance of teamwork and of effective communication amongst team members and build rapport within immediate team in ways that are respectful and inclusive of others

**To be successful, you’ll have**:

- A qualification in horticulture, landscape construction or design
- Experience in the delivery of horticultural improvements in public open space
- Knowledge and skills to maintain plants, shrubs, trees and turf areas to maintain optimum health including pruning to Australian Standards, fertilising and pest and insect management, and managing trees in an urban environment
- Working knowledge and experience on the operation of different types of machinery used within the industry Appropriate knowledge of industry best work practices and implementation of safe work practices and occupational health and safety requirements

- Working With Children Check
- Currently possess or be eligible to obtain a medium ridged truck licence
- Currently possess or be eligible to obtain a Worksafe heavy duty construction licence
