**The Opportunity**

A new opportunity has risen for an experienced Transport professional to lead the transport modelling and transport and mobility research function within the Strategic transport Planning team. The position of the Transport Modelling and Research Lead reports directly to the Coordinator Strategic Transport Planning.

The Transport Modelling and Research Lead will be instrumental in the ongoing improvements and development of the Melton Integrated Transport Model (MITM), producing cutting edge research on Land use, Transport and Mobility as well as developing innovative web and app based solutions in-relation to transport matters.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Acting as a custodian of the Melton Integrated Transport Model (MITM) and continuing the ongoing maintenance, improvements and development of MITM.
- Taking the lead in the Traffic and Transport modelling particularly, school peak modelling across the municipality, strategic transport modelling, future demand and growth modelling, pedestrian and cycling modelling and major events simulation modelling.
- Taking the lead in development of strategic engineering actions plans that inform future infrastructure requirements for Council; these plans include but not limited to, pedestrian and cycling action plan, freight movement strategy and Transport network modelling.
- Develop research and analytics in relation to Councils advocacy efforts; these include however not limited to Melton bus advocacy planning, public transport planning, and community research.
- Mentoring of staff and assist the Strategic Transport Coordinator as well as Senior Transport Planner in building the technical capability and skill diversification of the City Infrastructure Planning unit.

**About you**

**_ To be successful in this role you will have the following:_**
- Tertiary qualifications relevant to the position (e.g. Spatial Sciences, Surveying, Engineering) and some relevant experience in Asset Management and GIS, or a lesser formal qualification and substantial relevant experience.
- Advanced experience in Python, PowerBi, Mapbox, web development and other relevant analytics packages.
- Demonstrated ability in developing and reviewing complex traffic and transport models.
- Well-developed skills in analysis, research methods and ability to appraise traffic data and information.
- Demonstrated skills and experience in using desktop Geographic Information Systems for asset data capture, and spatial/asset data management, analysis, mapping and reporting.
