**Your new role**

Reporting to the Regional EHS Partner - Western Region APAC (WA, VIC, TAS, SA, NT), you will be responsible for providing effective Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) managerial and technical support to Sims facilities across the region.

You will promote and champion a care-based safety culture and ensure Sims remains a responsible corporate citizen in environmental matters, supporting the timely delivery of EHS strategies and initiatives in line with our organizational goals.

**Your responsibilities will include but not limited to**:

- Coach operations in the effective implementation and use of the EHS management system and act as an escalation point for complex matters
- Supports the EHS Partner, and where requested and required, manages in region and group strategic projects requiring EHS technical expertise.
- Support the implementation and operational understanding of EHS policy, standards and procedures
- Work with front-line teams to understand how work is done - including adaptations made to cater for contexts such as goal conflicts - and help them develop realistic procedures and goals
- Conduct analysis from EHS data to facilitate management decision making
- Work with operations on the effective use of EHS tools such as Risk Assessment and Critical Control Verification
- Participate in applicable internal and external audits and provide guidance on corrective actions
- Support the facilitation of EHS training
- Take part in and provide support to local EHS committees
- Support the investigation of significant EHS non-conformances or incidents, and identify and communicate corrective actions
- Provide insight on process hazards, and risk rating on incidents, Safe Work Procedures and Job Safety Environment Analysis Manage worker’s compensation claims and the return-to-work process

**Essential Criteria**:

- A tertiary qualification in Environment, Health & Safety or above in a related field.
- A previous work experience of at least 5 years in a high-hazard environment with site-wide responsibility for advising on safety, health and/or Environmental issues
- Experience working/implementing workplace health, safety and environment management systems
- Leadership and training experience relating to job performance and safety on the job
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written communications and presentation skills Driver’s licence and ability to travel within the Victoria/Tasmania region

Desirable criteria:
Technical and/or professional certifications such as Industrial Hygiene, Workers Compensation management
