This position is designed to develop, maintain and sustain Gravel Hill Community Garden as a standalone program and community resource used for therapeutic, educational and community development purposes using permaculture methods in line with the mission and values of The Salvation Army.
About the role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Garden Supervisor to actively support the ongoing growth and development of the garden.
This is a permanent part-time (17hrs/wk) position, based in Bendigo, VIC. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Award Level 4.
You will successfully:
- liaise with providers of supplies and maintenance contractors for suitable and effective provision of service.
- liaise with clients (internal and external) of the gardens to ensure satisfaction with services and maintenance of income sources.
- Build strong relationships with key stakeholders to assist in facilitating a cohesive workplace
- Support the Volunteer Coordinator as required
- Process purchases in accordance with policies, procedure and budget to maintain stocks and supplies
- Oversee maintenance of gardening equipment, ensuring the gardening equipment is operational and in safe working order, using appropriate fuels and lubricants on machinery.
You will have:
- Experience in program planning and coordination and associated administration
- Experience in supervising and developing volunteer leaders
- Knowledge of: edible plant production and harvesting; organic gardening techniques; and maintenance of integrated permaculture systems
- A current and valid Driver's licence
- Current First Aid Certificate - preferred
- A current and valid Working with Children Check
