**About the **Liver, Intestinal and Renal Transplant Units**
Austin Health is home to the Victorian Liver Transplant Unit, which is part of the Division of Surgery, Anaesthesia and Procedural Medicine and is an important component of the services provided by Austin Health. The unit works extremely closely with the Gastroenterology unit. It is the Statewide provider of liver transplant services for Victoria, Tasmania, and parts of southern New South Wales. The LTU performs approximately 75 adult and 15 paediatric transplants per year. It has strong partnerships with the Royal Children’s Hospital and DonateLife. Austin Health is funded as a Nationally Funded Centre for the paediatric component. We also are responsible for coordinating the Statewide abdominal organ retrieval service.
The intestinal transplant service is the only service in Australia, and to date there have been twelve intestinal transplants performed at Austin Health and the Royal Children’s since 2010
The renal transplant and surgery unit performs approximately 65 transplants per year. There is a head of renal transplant surgery and many surgeons involved in contributing to the service from Vascular, Renal Transplant and Urology. The unit works closely with the renal physicians within the Division of Medical Services. It is involved in the national paired kidney exchange program and is very active in the Victorian Kidney Transplant Collaborative. There is also a close relationship with the Royal Children’s Hospital, where paediatric renal transplants are undertaken.
**About the role**
The Transplant Manager has overall responsibility for coordinating the service provision, staffing and resources for an efficiently functioning liver, intestinal and renal surgical transplant service. This includes:
- Finance and budget management
- Human resource allocation and performance management
- Information systems
- Quality and safety
- Partnership development
- Data and reporting requirements
- Strategic planning and business development
