The AFGC work with members to develop policy positions and represent member views to government, trading partners, and stakeholders. They also provide members with a platform for collective action and provide information and insights to help them navigate complex industry issues.

**About the Role**:
Reporting to the Director Competitiveness & Growth, your primary responsibility is to undertake research, analysis, and policy development that enhance conditions and drive positive outcomes for industry and growth. You will be responsible for managing issues related to retailer and supplier trading relationships, while strongly engaging with member companies to deliver a valuable range of member services, including insights on economic, commercial and retail related issues impacting the industry.

**About the Person**:
You will have an excellent, positive attitude towards work and a willingness to learn and absorb information about the sector. You will have a collaborative approach to your role. Whilst having the autonomy to plan your own work and outcomes, you will need to be agile and flexible enough to deal with on the day issues as they arise.

Experience in supply chain, FMCG, retail or the legal sector would be a good foundation for the role.

**Duties include but are not limited to**:
- Undertake the development of strategic, evidence based advice to shape policy positions and member services related to the food and grocery manufacturing industry
- Promote fair retailer and supplier relationships through the Food and Grocery Code of Conduct, including issues management, member guidance and policy advice to the government
- Provide policy advice on mechanisms that incentivise investment in modernising Australian manufacturing
- Prepare and review AFGC submissions
- Manage the Grocery Industry Advisory Committee
- Prepare agenda and briefing papers for the relevant Committees and the Board
- Represent the AFGC, from time to time, on government and stakeholder advisory committees
- Consult, communicate and influence relevant stakeholders and other industry bodies on key policy and program initiatives
- Liaise and build professional relationships with appropriate personnel within member companies
- Monthly travel to Sydney or Melbourne

**To be successful you will have**:

- Positive attitude with a willingness to learn about the fast-moving consumer goods sector and the food and grocery industry
- Strong experience in policy management or a legal advisory role. Able to advise on policy issues impacting business and members
- Strong knowledge of competition policy and/or FMCG or retail law
- Some knowledge of Australia's food and grocery industry and key issues facing the industry
- Excellent research, analytical and policy development skills
- Highly developed written and oral communication skills
- Well-developed strategic thinking and complex planning skills
- Proven ability to work flexibly and cooperatively within a small team of 20, establish priorities and work independently to meet deadlines
- Strong interpersonal skills, including liaison and negotiation skills
- Excellent research, analytical, and communication skills
- Experience in commercial regulatory areas, including contract management and negotiation, would be highly desirable but not essential.

You will work directly with a supportive and highly experienced Director, who is happy to train and educate around the industry specialisations. You will receive excellent mentoring and training and have the opportunity to work directly with food and grocery manufacturers and suppliers that affect Australians every day.
