The Obstetrician and Gynaecologist will provide expert medical assessment and management of patients in

the Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) Service within the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District. This care will be provided for within the scope of practice granted by the Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee.

The position is primarily based at Wollongong Hospital but may be asked to work at one of the other locations across the ISLHD where required.

The Obstetrician and Gynaecologist is responsible for the provision of specialist services to emergency patients, inpatients and outpatients at the relevant Hospital.

The Obstetrician and Gynaecologist will ensure provision of high-quality O&G services to all patients within the

Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District.

The Obstetrician and Gynaecologist will proactively:

- Support the development of O&G services
- Support and facilitate a culture of learning and best practice
- Support and develop O&G research within the department

The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) has responsibility for health services in the Illawarra Shoalhaven region - a catchment area extending along the coastline from Helensburgh in the north to North Durras in the south with over 400,000 residents. This catchment covers four Local Government Areas (LGAs): Wollongong, Kiama, Shellharbour and Shoalhaven. ISLHD operates eight hospital sites in Coledale, Bulli, Wollongong, Shellharbour, Berry, Shoalhaven and Milton Ulladulla, and community health services operating from approximately 58 locations across the region. ISLHD is one of the region’s largest employers with a workforce of more than 8,500 staff.

Wollongong Hospital is the largest of Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District’s eight hospitals, treating more than 48,000 patients annually. It is the region’s tertiary referral hospital servicing a population of more than 400,000 people. The Wollongong Hospital is a 500+ bed centre which provides both general and specialty medical and surgical services including adult intensive care and coronary care units.

ISLHD is one of the region’s largest employers with a workforce of more than 8,500 across eight hospital sites and community health services.

All NSW Health Category A workers are required to receive two doses of an approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine. In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant. You will be required to provide a record of your vaccination status as part of the recruitment and onboarding process.

**Selection Criteria**:

- Specialist registration or eligible for specialist registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG) and/or equivalent specialist recognition.
- Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.
- Significant experience at a senior O&G specialist level with demonstration of competency working independently with complex emergencies and limited support.
- Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective high quality services, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evide
