With responsibility for three of Sydney’s critical infrastructure assets, being the Eastern Distributor and the Cross City and Lane Cove tunnels, the Maintenance Manager plays a crucial role in keeping our assets operational and our customers’ journeys smooth through the effective delivery of maintenance works provided by the core maintenance contractor and the elimination of unplanned disruptions.

Transurban operates in a 24/7 environment and conducts scheduled asset closures for routine maintenance works, typically run overnight. It is expected that the Maintenance Manager is onsite for portions of this time while also being available for any unplanned/ unscheduled works or incidents that might occur on their roads. However, when not required to be onsite, this role offers both flexible and hybrid working.

The impact you’ll have
- You’ll effectively administer maintenance contracts to ensure maintenance activities are delivered on time and to budget and with a strong focus on risk management, safety, environment, quality and industry best practice.
- You’ll act as the custodian of commercial contracts and OPEX spend for each of the assets within your portfolio.
- You’ll maintain relationships of trust with contractors and stakeholders to ensure that contractual, commercial and compliance requirements are met.
- You’ll work with our network optimisation teams to ensure the safety of our physical works teams and minimum impact and disruption to the travelling public.
- You’ll lead a team of Field Inspectors who’ll act as your eyes and ears across the assets and work with them to resolve issues that arise from field inspections and audits.
- You’ll work collaboratively across the business to continuously improve asset life cycle and maintenance outcomes.

The talents you’ll bring
- An appropriate engineering qualification is desirable, (either Civil, Electrical or Mechanical) and a strong technical knowledge of roads/ infrastructure assets would be advantageous, aiding in your ability to understand technical issues and to make informed decisions.
- Ideally, you’ll have worked with 24/7 operational assets such as utilities, telco, power or water, aiding your understanding of the operational asset environment.
- You’ll bring experience working with maintenance contracts, aiding your ability to ensure the contractor is performing to the highest, most efficient standards.
- You’ll bring strong commercial and financial acumen and a deep understanding of commercial contracts, OPEX budgets and other financials.
- A strong communicator, you will be at ease influencing a number of parties, both internal and external, in order to gain desired outcomes.
- You’ll have the ability to work nights on planned tunnel shuts to ensure that things run smoothly while also being available for any unplanned/ unscheduled works or incidents that might occur.
