Woollahra Council has an exciting opportunity for two enthusiastic Trainee Arborists to join our Open Space & Trees team for a fixed term contract until January 2027 on a full-time basis.

***
In this entry level role, you will join a team of highly skilled Arborists and learn about all areas of Arboriculture, including general labouring, branch chipping, tree pruning, tree removal and general tree maintenance. This position will carry out cost effective maintenance on Council owned trees in parks and streetscapes, including pruning and removal in accordance with the relevant Australian Standards and Council's Tree Management Policy

In addition to on-the-job training, you will be required to complete a Certificate III in Arboriculture. The theoretical component of this Traineeship is delivered in a face-to-face environment and you must be able to undertake the relevant studies for one day per week at the Ryde TAFE Campus.

To be successful in this role, you will be a self-motivated individual that is passionate about developing a career in Arboriculture. You will be a team-player that is willing to learn and get your hands dirty in this hands-on role.

To be eligible for this position you must have completed a School Certificate or Higher School Certificate, and not have previously completed any tertiary qualifications in Arboriculture.

**Essential Criteria**

- **Has not previously completed a qualification in Arboriculture or related field.****:

- **Class C Driver’s Licence (P1 Licence also acceptable).****:

- **Willingness to undertake training for an MR Licence (with Council support)****:

- **Demonstrated basic knowledge in and a genuine interest to pursue a career in Arboriculture.****:

- **Strong willingness to learn and the ability to successfully complete a Certificate III in Arboriculture on a full time basis over a period of 24 months.****:

- **Well-developed communication and numeracy skills.****:

- **Commitment to providing excellent customer service.****:

- **Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively as part of a team.****:

- **Physically fit and able to complete allocated manual handling tasks as outlined in section Seven (7) of the Position Description.****:

- **Commitment to WHS and EEO policies.***
