The Pathology Assistant in Transfusion, Pathology Queensland
- Central Laboratory reports to the Supervising Scientist.
You will perform operational duties under supervision using routine procedures and established techniques or methods to assist in the provision of services by health practitioners. This will include duties such as specimen reception, data entry, assisting with the provision of blood products, storage and disposal of specimens, answering telephone enquiries, operating the Lamson (specimen transport system), reagent preparation, centrifuging and aliquoting samples, loading samples onto automation and quality control.
Key competencies (role specific criteria)
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:

- Knowledge and skills, or ability to acquire knowledge and skill, of the operational requirements of a transfusion laboratory, including specimen reception, data entry, assist with the provision of blood products and the correct procedures for handling biological specimens.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner both individually and as part of a team.
- Ability to prioritise workloads to meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to solve problems in the workplace.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with customers, patients and with members of staff.
- Demonstrated proactive team behaviours including punctuality, attendance and respect for others.
- A demonstrated commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement.

Qualifications, registrations and other requirements
- Mandatory qualifications
- nil.
- While not mandatory, a Certifiate III or IV in Pathology (Laboratory Assistance) or equivalent would be well regarded.
- This position is primarily a weekday position (07:30-15:36) however occasional work outside of these hours may be required.
