**Role**:
This Instrumental Music Woodwind position provides instruction to students in Woodwind instruments. The role joins the team of Performing Arts staff, comprising classroom teachers, instrumental teachers and education support instructors.
The role will report to the Head of Faculty
- Performing Arts and liaise closely with the Instrumental Music Coordinator(s).
Supervision of students will be required, as it is an integral part of the role. However, an education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee¿s position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
Hours of work total 22.8 hours per week, which will be undertaken pending timetable requirements and individual negotiations.
The Instrumental Music role will typically involve:
- Providing woodwind instrument tuition lessons to individual students, small groups and ensembles
- Contributing to the Instrumental Music program across a wide range of performances within and outside the school
- Monitoring and evaluating student progress and providing assessment reports as required
- Maintaining accurate records of student participation and attendance
- Supporting the development of the Performing Arts program within BHS
- Maintaining a high standard of student tuition and technical and performance proficiency in Woodwind
Range 3 is distinguished by the introduction of the management responsibility and accountability for the delivery of professional support services. The role will usually impact beyond the work area or professional field. It seeks to gain cooperation of other staff members or members of the school community to achieve specific objectives.
No additional attendance during school holidays is required for this position.
**Responsibilities**:
**Performing Arts**
- Provide weekly instrumental tuition in small groups (4-6 students) or individual students on woodwind instruments, from years 7-12
- Support students to achieve positive outcomes and successfully participate in performance exams
- Assist in the development and operation of the school¿s music ensembles
- Assist colleagues with preparations for school and community-based performances
- Conduct regular Woodwind concerts
- at least 1 per term
- Ensure all school procedures are followed, including marking rolls, entering events on Compass, reporting and assessment requirements etc.
- Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of an effective program for students
- Take responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep of the school¿s collection of woodwind instruments
- Assist and support ensemble directors in recruiting woodwind students
- Maintain professional standards and good communication with staff, students and parents at all times
- In the event of student absences, support the program area by undertaking other duties
- Participate in team meetings as applicable and practicable.
