**The** **Opportunity**

We have an opportunity for a Subprogram Leader - Ecosystem Effects of Fishing and Aquaculture to be part of our South Australia Research and Development Institute Division within the Department of Primary Industries and Regions.

The primary purpose of the role is to provide leadership and strategic research direction into the ecosystem effects of fishing and aquaculture (and other marine industries); develop and maintain relevant, premium quality science and technological capabilities within the Ecosystem Effects of Fishing and Aquaculture (EEFA) Subprogram of the Marine Ecosystems Program within the SARDI’s Aquatic and Livestock Sciences Branch; timely delivery of high-quality science and research services to internal and external clients, and to ensure people are mentored and managed effectively so that SARDI’s objectives in strategic and business plans are met or exceeded. The key research areas include reducing and mitigating protected species interactions with fisheries and aquaculture, and the ecosystem effects of fishing and aquaculture. The role contributes delivering key agency’s priorities, in particular ‘sustaining the resource’ by informing the sustainable management of natural resources that underpin primary industries production. The incumbent is expected to work across science programs and research divisions, with high levels of professional independence in the determination of overall strategies with a focus on developing strategic science initiatives and collaborations, identification of new research and development opportunities, the exercise of significant professional judgement based on a detailed knowledge and the securing of funding to support and deliver of the agency’s priorities and divisional objectives.

**Special Conditions**

**Requirements**:

- Possession of a current driver’s licence and willingness to drive.
- Out of hours work and inter / intrastate travel may be required.
- The incumbent will be required to undertake emergency management training and must be willing to participate in emergency preparedness, response and recovery activities required by government agencies.
- Upholding the ethical behaviour and professional integrity standards as contained in the Public Sector Act, 2009.
- Participating in PIRSA’s Performance Management and Development Program

**Essential**:
A PhD in Marine Science or related discipline

**Desirable**:
Possession of a firearms licence; possession of a drone licence (Remote Pilot Licence - RePL).
